Travel in style – The Global Creator
Travelling for the best food experiences around the world is what the Foodie World blog is all about. Connecting with other travel lovers on social media and learning about great opportunities has been a huge bonus. One of those is Amy Hayes, founder of The Global Creator, who’s turned her love of travelling into a great resource for anyone who wants to travel in style and incorporate travel experiences back into their everyday lives.
The Foodie World has been lusting after some of the beautiful products on The Global Creator site. We thought we’d find out a little more about Amy (pictured above, modelling one of her stunning scarves and soft hats) her new venture and her first collection.
Why should travel lovers visit The Global Creator?
The concept for The Global Creator came from a desire to maintain my personal identity as a global citizen. This was formed during almost decade of international living, and I wanted to capture a feeling of being connected with the world even though I was no longer out on the road as often. My vision is for The Global Creator to be a community-based travel lifestyle brand that inspires and empowers people to go out and explore the world, and then adopt parts of those experiences into their own every day life. Anyone who has been bitten by the travel bug knows how much it can enrich our lives, and I hope they will be able to tap into this through visiting the site and shop.
What’s unique about what you’re offering?
The whole idea behind The Global Creator is for people to be able to take a piece of a destination and infuse it into their home and personal style. This first “Ready for Departure” collection includes things you would take with you on the road – a leather backpack, lightweight scarves, a stylish hat to cover that airplane hair, travel-sized organic skincare products, etc. The following collections will be destination based, meaning I will be partnering with artists and designers in different countries and carrying their products. Some have likened it to Etsy, but what’s unique is that each collection will be highly curated by a designer’s eye – my eye, as my background is in art and interior design. Customers are essentially benefiting from my design expertise as well as discovering makers they may not have ever known otherwise.
What was your impetus for launching the brand and site?
It was a bit of a winding path to launching The Global Creator, as many business stories are! I studied art in Florida before deciding to pursue interior design, and did my studies in that in London and Paris. After finishing my degrees, I worked with a boutique architecture and design firm in Melbourne, Australia for a year. I only ended up back in Florida when all of my work visas ran out. So travel and design have always been very closely related for me. I was working as the creative director of a luxury travel agency based in Miami when the idea for The Global Creator really began to take shape. I left that position in July, and began working 100% towards making this idea a reality. I hired a business coach, sourced the product, built the website and less than four months later we were launched!
What additional services are you looking to bring online?
Online retail is just one aspect of the brand. Eventually I would like to offer travel experiences in addition to the goods – the idea is that people can either shop a destination, or go to a destination on either a packaged trip or a custom itinerary. This is the reason why I call The Global Creator a travel lifestyle brand, rather than just retail.
If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go and what one product from your line would be your essential to take?
It would be a tough choice! Lately I’ve been really intrigued by seeing the wild side of Africa, so maybe Tanzania or Namibia, or somewhere like that. The Aislin Leather Backpack would be perfect for a safari adventure!
